Heritage groups object to castle conversion and access plans in Wales

Plans submitted by the Hay Castle Trust to convert the historic coach house at Hay Castle in Powys into a visitor centre with accommodation have been criticised by the Georgian Group. The group says the proposals lack a thorough heritage impact assessment and could damage the Grade I‑listed complex.

Separately, Caerphilly County Borough Council has proposed diverting a public right‑of‑way away from Ruperra Castle, a 17th‑century ruin near Draethen. The Ruperra Castle Preservation Trust argues the diversion would hide the castle from visitors and undermine public enjoyment. A 28‑day consultation ends on 23 August, after which the matter may be referred to a Welsh Government planning inspector.
