Heritage restoration projects underway for churches in Argentina and Mexico

In Argentina, the Provincial Architecture Directorate (DPA) has completed comprehensive maintenance and roof repairs on the church in Purmamarca. The project addressed damage caused by heavy rains over the past year. To preserve the building's heritage value, workers utilized ancestral construction techniques, such as the 'torta de barro' (mud cake) method, using local materials like mud and straw. The work was carried out by local cooperatives specialized in traditional regional architecture.

In Mexico, the third phase of rehabilitation for the Metropolitan Cathedral of Hermosillo is currently in the technical definition stage. The project involves an estimated investment of 7 million pesos to repair offices and roofs. The State Council for Concertation of Public Works (CECOP) is coordinating the structural interventions alongside the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). Recent heavy rainfall has required authorities to reassess the roof structure before proceeding with administrative area repairs.
