Herki Tribe leader calls for simpler wedding traditions in Şemdinli
During a wedding ceremony for Besna and Sıtkı Fırat in the Şemdinli district of Hakkari, Mehmet Fırat, an opinion leader of the Herki Tribe, called for greater simplicity in wedding traditions to alleviate economic pressures on families.
Fırat noted that the bride received exactly 11 Republic gold coins during the ceremony, serving as an example of the tribe's goal to prioritize modesty. He emphasized that high demands for gold and excessive wedding expenses force young people to work long hours in various sectors, such as construction and retail, to save for marriage. He urged community leaders to set an example by promoting simpler ceremonies to reduce the financial burden on the youth.
