Hermanos Díaz refinery completes third run of Cuban crude

The Hermanos Díaz Oil Refinery in Santiago de Cuba has completed its third successful refining run of domestic crude oil. This operation processed approximately 12,000 tons of Cuban crude, yielding 2,000 tons of naphtha and 10,000 tons of fuel oil.

This initiative is part of an effort to increase fuel availability using domestic resources amid a severe energy crisis and challenges with fuel imports. The refinery, which was originally designed for lighter crudes, has undergone adaptations to process the heavy, high-viscosity, and high-sulfur domestic oil.

Previous refining runs of national crude were conducted in March and May of this year. Officials noted that the process is being refined through technological improvements and new protocols to manage the specific chemical characteristics of the local petroleum.
