Hermigua Mayor sentenced to disqualification for prevarication
The Audiencia de Santa Cruz de Tenerife has sentenced Solveida Clemente, the mayor of Hermigua, to one year and nine months of disqualification from holding political office. The ruling follows a conviction for the crime of prevarication regarding the bidding process for the El Pescante kiosk in Los Pescantes.
According to the court, Clemente acted with full knowledge of legal warnings and objections raised by the municipal secretary and the Coast Guard. These reports indicated that the municipality lacked the necessary administrative concession to exploit the kiosk, as the facilities are located on maritime-terrestrial public domain.
The sentence is final as the defendant accepted the charges and the requested penalty. Legal sources indicate that this disqualification should lead to her resignation as mayor, necessitating a plenary session to elect a new leader for the Hermigua City Council.
