Hermitage truck park reaches 75% completion in Guyana
The 24-acre Hermitage truck parking facility in Wales, West Bank Demerara, is approximately 75 per cent complete. The project aims to provide a dedicated space for commercial vehicle operators to park, service, and perform routine maintenance, thereby reducing heavy-vehicle congestion in residential areas.
Housing Minister Collin Croal reported that six contractors are working across six lots. Four of these lots are expected to be finished within a month, with the remaining two due by the end of the year. Current construction has reached the crusher-run stage, and lighting will be installed to allow for operations outside of standard working hours. The facility is targeted to become operational before the end of 2026.
To ensure long-term sustainability, a management committee will be appointed to oversee security, maintenance, and daily operations. The government has indicated that the fee structure and specific operational arrangements will be announced in the coming days. This project is one of two facilities being constructed in Region Three, the other located at Meten-Meer-Zorg.
