Hermosillo completes second stage of Asphalt Art urban project

The second stage of the Asphalt Art project has been completed in Hermosillo, Sonora, involving the intervention of three major intersections in the city center. This initiative, part of the Corredor Cultural Centenario, is funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies and aims to transform public spaces through urban art to improve pedestrian safety, active mobility, and community engagement.

The project focuses on the intersections of Galeana and Noriega, Galeana and Morelia, and Galeana and Monterrey. Each site features unique artistic themes: Juan Carlos Valdivia’s work at Galeana and Noriega focuses on childhood and imagination; Max Gamaliel López Bustamante’s intervention at Galeana and Morelia depicts the history and identity of Hermosillo; and Gabriela Sotelo Jáquez’s design at Galeana and Monterrey represents the Hermosillo coast.

Hermosillo was one of ten cities selected from 700 international participants for this program. The project, coordinated by the Municipal Institute of Urban Planning, Mobility, and Public Space (IMPLAN), seeks to encourage citizens to reclaim public spaces, particularly in areas frequented by children and students.
