Hermosillo expands air‑quality monitoring network with rural sensor

On 30 July 2026 the municipal government of Hermosillo, led by Mayor Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez, installed a new air‑quality sensor in the rural community of San Pedro. The device, placed by the Municipal Energy and Climate Change Agency, brings the Red de Monitoreo Ambiental de Hermosillo (REMAH) to a total of 18 operational stations. It is the second sensor located outside the urban area, after the one in Bahía de Kino, and will allow direct comparison of rural and urban atmospheric conditions. All data are posted publicly on the REMAH online platform for use by authorities and citizens.

The expanded network is part of Hermosillo’s broader climate‑action strategy and aims to improve decision‑making on environmental health and urban planning.
