Municipalities launch new sports and recreational infrastructure

Various municipal governments in Latin America are inaugurating or planning new sports and recreational infrastructure to promote community health and public space recovery.

In Hermosillo, Mexico, Mayor Antonio Astiazarán inaugurated the Cárcamo H Cerro Colorado complex. The project, representing a significant municipal investment, features professional baseball fields, soccer and basketball courts, a skatepark, and an outdoor theater. It is designed to benefit over 375,000 residents across 212 neighborhoods and includes advanced security measures such as drone surveillance.

In Huixquilucan, Mexico, Mayor Romina Contreras Carrasco delivered a new outdoor calisthenics gym in the El Bosque neighborhood as part of the ‘Huixquilucan Contigo 24/7’ program. This initiative aims to provide free fitness options for all ages and has already seen the installation of over 40 such stations throughout the municipality.

In Santa Marta, Colombia, local authorities are coordinating with the Ministry of Sport to recover the historic Eduardo Santos stadium. Discussions also included strengthening nautical sports and other strategic regional projects.

In Bruzual, Venezuela, the local government launched the 14th edition of the Labor Games, involving 26 public and private companies across 11 disciplines. Mayor Carlos González highlighted the recovery of 48 sports courts as part of a broader effort to support local athletes.
