Hermosillo launches electric transport route and reports job growth

Hermosillo is experiencing significant developments in both infrastructure and labor markets. The city has launched a new electric express public transport route, connecting the north to the center. This initiative, inaugurated by the Governor of Sonora, involves an investment of 115 million pesos for 20 100% electric units. The route covers 22 kilometers and is designed to serve 113 public schools, several hospitals, and various economic zones, facilitating travel for approximately 63,000 workers.

Simultaneously, Hermosillo has reported strong economic growth, accumulating over 11,000 formal jobs between January and August 2026. According to IMSS data, the city generated 5,007 formal positions in August alone, more than doubling the figures from the same month in 2025. This growth has placed Hermosillo second nationally among capital cities for formal job creation. Key contributing sectors include commerce, manufacturing, and construction.
