Hermosillo mayor launches smart lighting and safety corridor program

Municipal president Antonio "Toño" Astiazarán Gutiérrez inaugurated a pilot smart‑lighting system in Hermosillo that remotely monitors 963 LED streetlights on the Solidaridad and Ganaderos boulevards. Using telecells, the telemanagement platform can detect faults, adjust brightness and program on‑off schedules, aiming to expand to 1,490 units citywide. Astiazarán said, "Yo siempre he creído que va a ser más barato ahorrar energía que generarla," highlighting the cost‑saving goal.

At the same time, the mayor opened corridor 154 of the "Camina Segura" program at the Simón Bolívar primary school. The 13 new bollard lights include free Wi‑Fi and video‑surveillance cameras linked to the municipal police. Astiazarán noted that each illuminated corridor “baja de manera radical las llamadas al 911,” improving safety for students, teachers and local residents. The initiatives follow the city’s recent complete replacement of sodium‑vapor lamps with LED fixtures.
