Hermosillo implements infrastructure and sanitation programs
The Hermosillo municipal government, led by Mayor Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez, has launched several initiatives to improve urban infrastructure and public health. The administration is conducting an intensive pothole repair program, utilizing 17 crews working day and night to rehabilitate primary and secondary roads. Additionally, a 2.5 million peso investment is being directed toward street rehabilitation in the Miguel Alemán settlement and infrastructure works in Bahía de Kino.
To address sanitation following recent rains, the city has deployed 200 temporary workers to clear weeds and debris from public spaces. The municipal health department is also organizing waste collection jornadas from October 27 to 29 in various neighborhoods, including Girasoles, Villas del Sur, and Privadas del Mirador, to prevent mosquito breeding sites and pest infestations.
In response to recent reports of gas-like odors in several sectors, including Río Sonora and Villa Bonita, local firefighters and civil protection units conducted inspections. The investigations concluded that the odors were likely caused by sewage gases resulting from recent drainage repairs rather than actual gas leaks.
