Mexico's INE prepares for 2027 elections and quick counts

Mexico's electoral landscape is undergoing significant preparation for the 2026-2027 electoral cycle. The National Electoral Institute (INE) is implementing a national operation to conduct quick counts for 17 gubernatorial elections on June 6, 2027. This strategy aims to provide reliable statistical estimates of voting trends and citizen participation on election night through scientific and methodological coordination with local electoral bodies.

In addition to the quick counts, the INE is launching a comprehensive electoral training program for supervisors, assistants, and polling station officials. This program includes in-person, remote, and virtual modalities to ensure readiness for the upcoming processes.

At the state level, various institutions are managing specific recruitment and candidacy processes. The Electoral Institute of the State of Mexico (IEEM) has opened the process for independent candidates for the 2027 elections, requiring significant citizen support through signatures. In Hidalgo, the IEEH has extended registration deadlines for district council positions and updated guidelines to ensure gender parity and inclusion for priority groups. Meanwhile, in Coahuila, the INE is working to fill 31 vacancies in district councils to prepare for federal electoral activities.
