Hermosillo reports 32% increase in gas leak incidents
The Hermosillo Fire Department has reported a 32% increase in gas leak calls, handling 803 incidents between October of last year and September of this year. Fire Department Director Francisco Matty Ortega stated that the majority of these cases occur in residential properties.
Common causes for these leaks include faulty installations, poor connections, deteriorating pipes or regulators, and substandard conditions of tanks and consumption appliances. Ortega warned that explosions often occur when gas accumulates in enclosed spaces and reacts to ignition sources such as stove pilots, electrical sparks, or water heater flames. He also noted that LP gas is denser than air, causing it to settle in low areas, which can make early detection by smell difficult.
