Hermosillo residents denounce unauthorized water meter installations
Residents in Hermosillo, Sonora, have filed complaints with the Unión de Usuarios regarding the unauthorized installation of water meters by Agua de Hermosillo workers. Affected citizens claim that workers are entering their homes to replace or install devices without prior notice or consent.
In addition to the lack of authorization, users reported that the cost of the meters—approximately 1,445 pesos including VAT—is being charged directly to their utility bills. Ignacio Peinado Luna, leader of the Unión de Usuarios, stated that the primary issue is not just the cost, but the manner in which workers are entering private residences without permission.
Agua de Hermosillo has stated that meter installation is intended to ensure users pay for actual consumption and to assist in leak detection. While the agency maintains mechanisms to request installations and offers payment agreements for the costs, residents argue they never requested the service.
