Hermosillo sports fund backs over 3,000 athletes with 3.5 million pesos

The Hermosillo Sports Fund is providing financial and logistical assistance to more than 3,000 local athletes, allocating roughly 3.5 million pesos for travel, registration fees and training support to compete at state, national and international events. Municipal president Antonio Astiazarán Gutiérrez confirmed the program, which has operated since 2022 and is financed through citizen contributions and municipal revenue streams.

In conjunction with the summer Codeson 2026 camp, Sonora’s elite athletes Sofía Ibarra (sport shooting) and Bryan Lastra (paranatación) delivered talks to participating children, sharing their career paths and achievements, including Ibarra’s international medals and Lastra’s Paralympic successes. The fund also sponsored young footballer Romeo Nicolás Acuña’s ten‑day training stint with Germany’s Borussia Dortmund, following his discovery at an event in Las Vegas.

These initiatives aim to sustain high‑performance sport development in Hermosillo and raise the profile of Sonoran athletes.
