Hermoupolis to host symposium celebrating 200 years of music
The Athens Conservatory Research and Documentation Center and the General State Archives are co-organizing a symposium titled ‘Hermoupolis 200 Years of Music’ to commemorate the bicentennial of the Cyclades capital's naming.
Scheduled for September 12, 2026, at the Syros-Hermoupolis Municipal Cultural Center, the event will examine the city's 19th-century musical landscape. Discussions will focus on the key figures and activities surrounding the Apollo Theatre, as well as the influence of various musical societies and schools.
In conjunction with the symposium, an exhibition of historical documents from the Syros branch of the General State Archives will be held from September 14 to 25, 2026. The collection includes scores, librettos, performance programs, and administrative records that reflect Hermoupolis's evolution into a significant commercial and cultural hub.
