Hernandarias K3 firefighters suspend operations over unpaid municipal funds
The Hernandarias K3 Volunteer Firefighters Corps suspended all operational services as of 5:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28. The decision follows nine months of unpaid municipal contributions from the local government.
The institution reported that its financial situation has reached a critical point, leaving them unable to cover essential costs such as fuel, medical supplies, and vehicle repairs. Many of the department's vehicles are currently experiencing mechanical failures, making it impossible to guarantee a safe and effective response to fires, accidents, and other emergencies in Hernandarias and surrounding areas.
In a formal statement, the firefighters emphasized that the suspension is due to a lack of resources rather than a lack of will to serve the community. They also noted a lack of dialogue with the municipal executive branch to resolve the ongoing debt. The corps expressed hope for a swift resolution to regularize pending funds and restore emergency response capabilities.
