Hernando County authorities seek suspect in copper thefts

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is seeking public assistance to identify a person of interest linked to a series of burglaries and property damage at a dormant CEMEX industrial plant in Brooksville, Florida.

Investigators report that the intruder breached perimeter gates by cutting chains and padlocks to access the facility. Since April 2026, the suspect has sporadically removed copper wire from various sections of the plant and stolen items from on-site warehouses. A surveillance camera captured an image of a person of interest on September 20, 2026. Detectives have released the photo to aid the investigation.
