Hernán Darío Gómez seeks to remain El Salvador coach after relegation

Hernán Darío ‘Bolillo’ Gómez has expressed his desire to remain as the head coach of the El Salvador national football team, despite the team’s recent relegation to League B in the CONCACAF Nations League.

Following a 1-1 draw against Martinique that confirmed the relegation, Gómez stated that he is waiting for an analysis from the president of the Salvadoran Football Federation (FESFUT). He noted that while there is opposition to his leadership, he has also received significant support from fans and wishes to continue the ongoing development process with his coaching staff.

Gómez’s stance contrasts with previous indications from FESFUT President Yamil Bukele, who had suggested that the coach had committed to stepping down if the team failed to maintain its position in League A. Bukele has indicated that the federation will announce upcoming measures and objectives in the following days.
