Hernán Lacunza builds political team for 2027 presidential bid

Former Economy Minister Hernán Lacunza is consolidating a political team for a potential presidential candidacy in the 2027 elections. Lacunza is advocating for the PRO party to run its own independent list rather than forming an alliance with Javier Milei’s La Libertad Avanza (LLA).

In a recent meeting in Buenos Aires, Lacunza met with various provincial PRO leaders, legislators, and party presidents. Among the prominent figures supporting his project is former Buenos Aires Governor María Eugenia Vidal. The gathering also included support from regional leaders such as Julio Sahad from La Rioja, who has also voiced opposition to a formal alliance with LLA.

Lacunza claims to have the backing of former President Mauricio Macri, though Macri has not yet made a public endorsement. The former official has emphasized the need for the PRO to maintain a distinct political identity and offer a differentiated alternative to the electorate.
