Deportivo Saprissa defeats Alajuelense 2-0 in Clásico Nacional

Deportivo Saprissa defeated Liga Deportiva Alajuelense 2-0 in the 367th Clásico Nacional at the Alejandro Morera Soto stadium, marking Saprissa's first victory at that venue since April 2023.

Orlando Sinclair opened the scoring in the 46th minute, followed by a second goal from Sebastián Acuña in the 52nd minute after a mistake by Alajuelense goalkeeper Washington Ortega. The victory solidifies Saprissa's position at the top of the Apertura 2026 tournament with 18 points after seven matches.

Following the loss, Alajuelense sits in fifth place with 11 points. The defeat has intensified criticism of Alajuelense coach Ismael Rescalvo from fans, as the team has earned only one point from its last nine available. Rescalvo defended his ongoing rebuilding process, citing a lack of clinical finishing despite creating opportunities.

Prior to the match, the stadium was at full capacity. The game also faced a brief ten-minute interruption due to a power outage affecting the stadium's lighting towers.
