Hernán Rivas trial: Witness identifies former senator by physical traits

During the oral trial of former senator Hernán Rivas, witness Éver Ortiz Torres testified that he recognized the defendant based on his physical characteristics, specifically noting his large ears. Ortiz Torres, a former classmate from the Law program at Universidad Sudamericana, stated he saw Rivas during classes between 2009 and 2015 and later identified him during a political meeting in Fernando de la Mora prior to the pandemic.

Ortiz Torres described Rivas as being thin during their university years. While the witness provided details regarding their shared academic background, he noted that they did not maintain a close relationship at the time. The defendant, Hernán Rivas, chose not to testify during the proceedings.

The Sentencing Tribunal, composed of María Fernanda García de Zúñiga, Juan Carlos Zárate, and Yolanda Portillo, has scheduled the final arguments for Thursday, September 24, which is expected to conclude the trial.
