Hero Kanu and Arion Carter named Jason Witten Award semifinalists

Texas defensive lineman Hero Kanu and Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter have been named semifinalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award. The SCORE Foundation announced the 20 semifinalists, who are recognized for demonstrating leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship both on and off the football field.

Kanu has conducted football camps in Germany and France to mentor youth and has sponsored student-athletes from Germany and Nigeria for trips to American college camps. He has also participated in charitable initiatives such as donating shoes to children in need and volunteering with the Boys & Girls Club of Austin.

Carter, a team captain for Tennessee, has supported cancer research through his mother’s nonprofit and has volunteered at Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital and with Make-A-Wish. His community involvement also includes a service trip to Brazil.
