Heron Power to build 40GW grid electronics factory in California
Heron Power has announced plans to build a 40GW power conversion manufacturing facility, named Heron Factory One, in Morgan Hill, California. The company will convert a 286,000-square-foot former distribution warehouse at 850 Jarvis Drive into its first full-scale factory.
The facility aims to address the shortage of US-sourced critical grid components, such as transformers and inverters, following the FCC's classification of foreign-produced power inverters as national security threats. The factory is expected to create more than 600 jobs in manufacturing, engineering, automation, supply chain, and operations.
Heron Power's primary product, the Heron Link, is a modular 5-megawatt medium-voltage device designed to streamline the construction of large-scale energy projects, including solar plants, energy storage facilities, and AI data centers. The company intends to manufacture more than 10,000 units of the system annually to meet rising demand from electric vehicles and AI infrastructure.
