Heronides Araújo School develops natural ointments using Cerrado plants

Students at the Heronides Araújo State Rural School in Barra do Garças are participating in a project titled ‘Phytotherapeutic Ointments of the Mato Grosso Cerrado’. The initiative, funded by the Research Support Foundation of the State of Mato Grosso (Fapemat), focuses on researching local plant species to produce six types of natural ointments.

The formulations are designed for various uses, including skin care, muscle relief, insect protection, respiratory support, hair care, and wound healing. To create these products, students utilize plant components such as leaves and underground structures, combined with beeswax.

The project integrates traditional community knowledge with scientific investigation. It also serves as a practical application for classroom subjects; for instance, students apply mathematical concepts like measurements, proportions, and weight calculations during the production process.
