Herrenseebrücke in Waren reopens with weight restrictions

The Herrenseebrücke in Waren an der Müritz has reopened to traffic after being closed for nearly a year. The closure occurred unexpectedly late last year following the discovery of cracks during an engineering inspection.

Reopening is subject to specific restrictions: vehicles are limited to a maximum total weight of 3.5 tons and a height of 3.30 meters. Pedestrians and cyclists are currently restricted to using only one side of the bridge. To monitor the structure's integrity, sensors have been installed, and recent load tests supported the decision to allow limited access.

Waren Mayor Norbert Möller stated that while the bridge can be used under these conditions, experts cannot guarantee how long this arrangement will last. If regulations are strictly followed, a window of approximately ten years may be possible, providing time to prepare for a full reconstruction or major renovation. The costs for such projects are estimated to be in the tens of millions of euros.
