Herten begins urban development in Bertlich

Construction has begun on a major urban development project in Herten-Bertlich, Germany, aimed at enhancing local infrastructure and nature education. The project includes the creation of the ‘Wasserweg Bertlich’ and the ‘Blaues Klassenzimmer’ (Blue Classroom) near the Hasseler Mühlenbach.

The ‘Wasserweg Bertlich’ involves upgrading and repaving a 360-meter path between Egerstraße and Gustav-Gläser-Straße. New amenities such as seating, play areas, and bicycle parking will be installed.

In collaboration with the Lippeverband, the ‘Blaues Klassenzimmer’ will be established on a 330-square-meter barrier-free site. This educational space will feature raised beds, herb spirals, and insect hotels to allow visitors to experience water and nature directly.

Work is being carried out in stages to minimize disruptions. Pedestrians and cyclists should expect restrictions near the Hasseler Mühlenbach bridge, the local playground, and the area leading to the Glückauf sports hall and workshop. The city expects the project to be completed by the end of the year.
