Herten launches climate‑adaptation photo competition

The city of Herten, Germany, and the local utility have opened a photo contest titled “Klimaanpassung in Herten”. Residents may submit images between 3 August and 30 August 2026 that show green facades, shaded streets, rain‑water reuse, natural gardens or other measures that help the city adapt to climate change. Entries can be taken with a camera or a smartphone.

A jury composed of representatives from the Zukunftsinitiative Klima.Werk, the Herten city administration and the Recklinghausen district will select the winners. The award ceremony is scheduled for 14 September 2026 at the town hall, after which the winning photographs will be displayed in the foyer of the Glashaus until the end of September. The competition is part of the nationwide Week of Climate Adaptation (14‑20 September) and is accompanied by a climate walk on 17 September and an information stand at the weekly market on 18 September.
