Herten municipal office plans face criticism over costs

Architect Hiltrud Riepe has expressed concerns regarding the planned establishment of a Municipal Order Service (KOD) station in Herten. In a letter to the editor, Riepe argues that the city should prioritize using existing municipal buildings, such as the VHS-Haus, rather than renting a former commercial space on Hermannstraße.

Riepe emphasizes that the long-term financial implications must be considered, noting that any initial savings from landlord contributions to renovations would likely be offset by higher rent and maintenance costs over a 10 to 20-year period. She calls for strict adherence to principles of economic efficiency given the current tight financial situation of municipalities.
