Hertha BSC cleared to pursue new stadium in Berlin's Olympiapark

Hertha BSC has received permission from an expert commission to pursue the construction of a new football stadium within Berlin's Olympiapark. The commission recommended that the club submit a preliminary building application to the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district for a site located along Jesse-Owens-Allee, where the currently unused Reiterstadion stands.

If the district issues a preliminary decision, the club will need to present a financing concept for the proposed arena, which is planned to hold up to 52,000 spectators. The Berlin Senate has stipulated that the project must not incur costs for the state; Hertha BSC would be responsible for all construction and development costs using its own funds. Additionally, the club must demonstrate how the new venue can economically coexist with the existing Olympiastadion.

Sports Senator Iris Spranger expressed support for the commission's recommendation, emphasizing the need for a balance between development and the preservation of the Olympiapark. Club President Fabian Drescher noted that the club is prepared to move forward with the application to evaluate the planning and legal requirements of the project.
