Herttoniemi to undergo 4.6 million euro road and urban upgrades

Herttoniemi is set to undergo significant infrastructure and urban development projects, with an estimated investment of 4.6 million euros dedicated to renovating main streets. The renovations will focus on Linnanrakentajantie, costing approximately 3 million euros, and Abraham Wetterin tie, costing around 1.6 million euros.

Planned improvements include the construction of one-way bicycle paths and sidewalks on both sides of Linnanrakentajantie between Laivalahdenportti and the northern bridge of Herttoniemensalmi. Additionally, the vehicular connection from Kirvesmiehentie to Abraham Wetterin tie will be converted into a pedestrian and cycling path, and new traffic lights will be installed at the Johan Sederholmi tie intersection to enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists. These projects are budgeted to begin in 2027.

Parallel to these roadworks, the area will see substantial residential growth through the development of hybrid blocks. Plans include new housing, offices, and commercial spaces near the Herttoniemi metro station, with some buildings reaching up to 17 stories and accommodating 450 residents. Further development is planned for the Herttoniemi business area, featuring a new hybrid block with over 400 apartments and shared courtyard spaces.
