Herzegovina faces flood and landslide warnings
The Adriatic Sea Water Basin Agency has issued an emergency warning for the Herzegovina region regarding potential flash floods, landslides, and the overflowing of smaller watercourses on October 9 and 10, 2026.
Based on meteorological and hydrological models, including the European Flood Awareness System (EFAS), the warning follows forecasts of very intense local rainfall. The highest risks are identified in the middle and lower basins of the Neretva River, as well as the Trebižat River basin.
Authorities have been advised to monitor the situation continuously and act in accordance with the Federal Operational Plan for Flood Defense. Civil protection services are urged to exercise maximum caution and to warn residents living near rivers without built-in water protection structures about the dangers of increased water depth and flow velocity.
