Hesse provides financial aid for Wetzlar tornado victims

The state of Hesse has pledged financial assistance to victims of a devastating tornado that struck the Wetzlar area on August 20. The storm caused millions of euros in damage, affecting approximately 60 houses in the Münchholzhausen district and about a dozen homes in Solms-Oberndorf.

Under the state’s ‘elementary guidelines,’ individuals, businesses, associations, and agricultural enterprises can apply for aid to cover non-insurable damages exceeding 5,000 euros. Interior Minister Roman Poseck stated that the government will not leave the victims of the severe weather behind, describing the decision as a sign of solidarity.

The aid follows requests from the cities of Wetzlar and Solms, the Lahn-Dill district, and the regional administration. While providing state support, Minister Poseck also urged citizens to take private precautionary measures against extreme weather events.
