Hesse records record rise in electric car registrations in June

In June, the state of Hesse saw a 62% increase in newly registered fully electric passenger cars, reaching 7,600 units. Combined with 3,360 plug‑in hybrids, electric‑driven vehicles totalled roughly 11,000 registrations, up about 45% from the same month a year earlier. Overall new‑car registrations in Hesse fell to 29,947 from 30,599, with gasoline and diesel models together at 9,559, putting electric cars ahead of traditional powertrains.

Michael Kraft, president of the Hesse motor‑vehicle association, said the figures reflect market‑specific statistical quirks, but the strong demand for electric cars is expected to continue, supported by state subsidies. The Hesse trend mirrors the national picture: alternative‑drive vehicles captured 65.1% of new‑car registrations in the first half of the year, and fully electric cars accounted for 28.4% of June registrations nationwide, with 84,057 BEVs registered across Germany.

The surge highlights the rapid shift toward electric mobility in the region and contributes to an expanding share of alternative‑drive vehicles in the German automotive market.
