Hessen and ADAC launch campaign to prevent wildlife accidents
The Hessian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas, ADAC Hessen-Thuringia, and the State Hunting Association of Hessen have launched a joint radio and social media campaign titled “Wildunfälle verhindern – Tierleid vermeiden” (Prevent wildlife accidents – avoid animal suffering).
The initiative follows the transition to winter time, which shifts commuter traffic into twilight hours when wildlife activity is highest. In Hessen, deer are the most frequent animals involved in collisions, with 12,004 recorded during the 2024/2025 hunting year out of a total of 13,740 hoofed animals involved in accidents.
Authorities advise drivers to reduce speed, maintain sufficient distance, and remain vigilant near forest and field edges, particularly between 6:00 and 9:00 and after 17:00. The campaign includes radio segments on HitRadio FFH from October 26 to November 4, 2026, to reach commuters during peak travel times.
