Hessen reports 30% surge in right‑wing attacks, Response says

Liisa Yasmin Pärssinen, head of the counselling centre Response, presented the 2024 annual report on right‑wing, racist and antisemitic violence in the German state of Hessen. The report recorded 158 attacks and 141 new counselling cases, marking an increase of more than 30 % compared with the previous year.

Violence was reported across schools, public transport and workplaces. The centre highlighted the lasting impact of the 2020 Hanau attack, noting that Response continues to support survivors and relatives. A new low‑threshold reporting platform, "Hessen schaut hin," allows victims and witnesses to log incidents anonymously. The work is funded by the federal programme "Democracy lives!" and the state programme "Hessen – active for democracy and against extremism".
