Hessen security report identifies right-wing extremism as top threat
The 2025 Hessen Constitution Protection Report identifies right-wing extremism as the primary threat to the state's democratic order, accounting for approximately 75 percent of all extremist crimes in the region. While right-wing violent offenses have seen a decline, officials emphasize that the movement continues to work toward societal division.
Other forms of extremism are showing significant increases. Islamist criminal and violent offenses have risen by nearly 67 percent, with officials describing jihadism as a potentially deadly threat. Additionally, left-wing extremist violence has seen a sharp rise; violent incidents nearly tripled from 15 to 44, marking the first time in five years that left-wing extremist violence has exceeded right-wing extremist violence in Hessen.
Interior Minister Roman Poseck and the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution also highlighted emerging hybrid threats. These include increased risks from espionage, sabotage, cyberattacks, and disinformation, which are complicating the security landscape for the state.
