Hessian Math Competition Showcases Top Student Achievements

The Hessian Mathematics Competition, open to eighth‑grade pupils across the state, attracted 52,773 participants from 512 schools this year. At the district level, Emilia Kehm of Brüder‑Grimm‑Gesamtschule Bebra won the local round and qualified for the third stage held on 12 May 2026 at Heinrich‑Schütz‑Schule in Kassel.

In the overall state ranking, Yunsheng Zhao of Kaiserin‑Friedrich‑Gymnasium secured third place among gymnasium entrants. The school received a special award from the Hessian Ministry for Culture, Education and Opportunities and the employer association HESSENMETALL, presented during a ceremony at Dematic in Heusenstamm. Officials highlighted the competition’s role in fostering mathematical competence essential for technical and industrial careers.

Both students were praised by ministry officials and industry representatives for their dedication, with comments emphasizing the importance of strong mathematical foundations for future education and employment opportunities.
