Hessische Landesbahn opens major new train workshop in Butzbach

Hessische Landesbahn (HLB) has completed its largest-ever investment: a new, 73,000-square-meter train workshop in Butzbach. The facility is now fully operational after approximately two years of construction.

The centralized workshop allows HLB to perform inspections, repairs, wheel changes, and component replacements in-house rather than relying on external providers. According to Co-Managing Director Tobias Beckers, the facility was designed to be large-scale, sustainable, and expandable to accommodate future needs.

The new design improves efficiency for mechatronics technicians by providing better access to all parts of the trains, including the roof and undercarriages. This improved workflow is expected to reduce repair times and return regional trains to service more quickly.
