Heston James Cobb pleads guilty to criminal impersonation for viral Arizona pranks

Heston James Cobb, a social media influencer known as ‘Heston James’, has pleaded guilty to criminal impersonation in Arizona. The charges stem from a series of viral prank videos where Cobb and his accomplices staged takeover attempts at various businesses in the Phoenix suburb of Tempe.

Investigators stated that Cobb and others entered establishments while posing as employees, accessed restricted employee-only areas, and refused to leave when confronted by staff. In one widely circulated video, Cobb wore a Chipotle Mexican Grill shirt and told staff he was going to ‘clean house’ before a group of men entered the restaurant and ignored requests to depart. One individual was even seen pretending to mop a tabletop.

Authorities noted that the videos garnered millions of views and may have generated substantial revenue for Cobb. Steve Chucri, president of the Arizona Restaurant Association, expressed hope for a ‘severe’ punishment to deter similar behavior, noting the disruption caused to the service industry. Academic experts also suggested the case serves as a warning that legal boundaries apply to digital content creation.
