Hexagon unveils OPTIV S AI-enhanced optical CMM

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence has unveiled the OPTIV S, a next-generation optical coordinate measuring machine (CMM) designed for manufacturers of complex components in the electronics, medical, automotive, and precision engineering sectors.

The new platform integrates advanced vision metrology with tactile and multi-sensor capabilities. Key technical improvements include a tactile precision of (1.6 + L/200) µm and a sensor dynamic increase of approximately 30% due to higher displacement speeds and accelerations. Initial tests indicate a reduction in inspection cycle times of about 15%.

A major feature of the OPTIV S is the introduction of AI-assisted measurement capabilities. These intelligent software functions, including automatic lighting and contour detection within the PC-DMIS platform, are scheduled for progressive deployment through 2026 and 2027. The company aims to help quality teams meet increasing pressure to inspect more parts faster without sacrificing precision.
