Hezbollah elevates Hassan Nasrallah to global revolutionary figure
Following the death of Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike on September 27, 2024, Hezbollah has engaged in a narrative reconstruction to transform the loss of its longtime leader into an ideological victory. Pro-Hezbollah media, such as the Lebanese daily Al Akhbar, have characterized Nasrallah as a founding figure of a “global revolution,” utilizing religious and political terminology to sanctify his legacy.
Nasrallah led Hezbollah for 32 years, having succeeded Abbas al-Moussawi in 1992. His leadership was defined by his role as a primary antagonist to Israel and his alignment with the “Axis of Resistance,” which includes Iran, Iraq, and the Houthis in Yemen. Analysts suggest this symbolic mobilization aims to compensate for the military setbacks and the decapitation of the group's command structure experienced during confrontations with Israel between late 2023 and late 2024.
