Hezbollah rejects Lebanese diplomatic proposal to Arab League

Hezbollah has rejected a draft resolution submitted by Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the Arab League, warning that the proposal threatens the 1989 Taif Agreement. The group argues that the diplomatic text attempts to bypass foundational national accords that established the framework for political power-sharing and coexistence following Lebanon’s civil war.

Hezbollah representatives have urged Arab League member states to review the submission and enter formal reservations against it. The group claims the specific provisions in the text risk involving regional Arab states in Lebanon’s domestic crises and favor external pressures over national sovereignty.

In a related statement, Hezbollah criticized the Lebanese government’s pursuit of negotiations, labeling the approach “absurd, illegal and unconstitutional.” The group asserted that such diplomatic paths provide a pretext for continued Israeli aggression and allow external actors to impose conditions on Lebanon. This comes amid reports of recent Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon that resulted in multiple casualties.
