Hezly Rivera captured her second consecutive U.S. women's gymnastics national title at the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Phoenix. Rivera, an 18-year-old Olympic gold medalist, overcame a fall on the uneven bars during the competition to finish with a two-day total of 111.950.

Rivera is the first American woman besides Simone Biles to win back-to-back national titles since Jordyn Wieber in 2010 and 2011. Claire Pease finished in second place, a significant improvement from her 10th-place finish last year. Skye Blakely, who had tied for the lead after the first day of competition, finished behind the leaders following errors on her floor routine.

The results of the championships will help determine the roster for the upcoming World Championships, scheduled to take place in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in October.
