Hidalgo driver caught on video dragging dog behind vehicle
A video circulating on social media has sparked outrage in the community of La Trinidad, located in the Zempoala municipality of Hidalgo, showing a driver dragging a dog with a rope behind a vehicle. Witnesses reported that the driver ignored pleas to stop and release the animal. One account suggests the driver claimed he was merely ‘taking the dog for a walk’ before eventually stopping and placing the animal inside the truck.
The current health status and whereabouts of the dog remain unknown. Animal rights activists have initiated investigations to identify the vehicle and the individual responsible. Under the Penal Code of the State of Hidalgo, acts of cruelty or causing injury to animals can result in prison sentences ranging from six months to two years, along with economic fines.
This incident follows a rising trend of animal abuse in the region. According to the Procuraduría General de Justicia del Estado de Hidalgo (PGJEH), 251 investigations into animal cruelty were opened in the state during the last year. Local rescuers estimate receiving between 10 and 15 reports of suspected abuse every week.
