Hidalgo Secretary of Public Education launches Náhuatl language book

The Hidalgo Secretary of Public Education (SEPH), through the State Center for Indigenous Languages and Cultures (CELCI), has presented the book ‘Tlahtolli tlen amo kiwika ahakatl / Palabras que no se lleva el viento’. The publication aims to preserve the Náhuatl (Nawatl) language and its cultural legacy by gathering texts that maintain its writing and the transmission of knowledge.

The work features writings from indigenous education teachers and health sector personnel certified in Náhuatl. These texts were produced during a creative writing and alphabet updating workshop, covering themes such as work, health, childhood memories, and water.

A significant aspect of the publication is the incorporation of new alphabet characters in accordance with the New Writing Standard for the Náhuatl Language. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Hidalgo state government to promote inclusive, intercultural, and humanist education that recognizes linguistic diversity.
