Hideaki Sorachi warns of physical strain from weekly manga schedule
Hideaki Sorachi, the creator of the popular manga series Gintama, has expressed concerns regarding the physical toll of returning to a weekly publication schedule. Following a seven-year hiatus from Weekly Shonen Jump, Sorachi began serializing his new work, ‘Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz’, in April 2026.
Sorachi admitted that he has struggled to adapt to the demanding weekly rhythm, noting that he has been “completely missing deadlines.” He indicated that the physical strain of maintaining such a pace may mean this current project is the last time he is able to commit to a weekly serialization.
Before starting the new series, Sorachi reportedly suggested to Shueisha that the work be published on Shonen Jump+, a digital platform that offers greater editorial flexibility. However, he ultimately returned to the traditional weekly magazine format.
