Hideki Matsuyama and Ryosuke Kusanari chase Presidents Cup spots for Japan

Japan's bid to field two golfers in the 2024 Presidents Cup has entered its final stage. World‑ranking No. 3 Hideki Matsuyama, a permanent fixture on the World Team since 2013, and rising PGA Tour player Ryosuke Kusanari, currently 11th in the ranking, are both fighting for selection.

The United States team will host the biennial Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club in Illinois from 24 September. The World Team, which excludes European players, will be chosen from the top six ranked players as of 31 August, with captain Jeff O'Gulby (Australia) naming six additional members. If both Matsuyama and Kusanari make the final twelve‑man roster, it will be the first time since 1998 that two Japanese golfers compete together, ending a 28‑year gap.

Past Japanese representatives include Matsuyama, Shigeki Maruyama, and Ryo Ishikawa. The tournament last year saw the U.S. team extend its winning streak to ten consecutive victories, raising its overall tally to 13.
