Physint moves to Xbox after Sony cancels funding

Hideo Kojima’s upcoming espionage-action project, Physint, has moved from Sony to Xbox following the sudden cancellation of its funding by PlayStation. Reports indicate that Sony terminated the partnership during a virtual meeting in June, citing disagreements over budget, development deadlines, and exclusivity.

Industry reports and journalists, including Jason Schreier, suggest that Kojima Productions had requested a massive budget from Sony—with some estimates placing the project's cost around $400 million. While Kojima Productions initially disputed some claims regarding the reasons for the split, the project has since secured a new publishing deal with Microsoft.

Sources indicate that the agreement with Xbox may involve a significantly lower investment than what was originally sought from Sony. This shift follows leadership changes within PlayStation, including the departure of executives who had previously supported Kojima’s work. Physint is intended to be an ambitious title that blurs the lines between cinema and gaming, with Kojima expressing interest in expanding the IP into film, anime, and other media.
